Week One in Guatemala :)

This past week we send time getting acclimated to our surroundings here in Guatemala. We did a little of sight seeing and visiting places where we will be working. Sunday we went to an English church (Journey) that is in the school that Heather use to teach, Christian Academy of Guatemala (CAG). In the afternoon we went to Antigua to the markets. Hair wraps Brandon!  pollo compearo Look at that group:) Monday we went on at tour with Joel in Guatemala City. He told us a lot about the history of Guatemala and we started off in the cemetery. Cemeteries in Guatemala are a lot different the US as you will see in some of the pictures. We then proceed to go to the historical district of the city where we were the only white people. Guatemala has been through a lot in the past 60 years between civil war, genocides, and corruption. Worship!

This week we had Jeremiah Briggs a former worship leader come speak to us on the topic of worship! This man had a true heart of a worshiper! It was really cool to listen to him speak because he just has a genuine passion to bring glory to God! He has doesn't have a college degree in worship leading, he just taught us from what God has revealed to him through worshiping God. Worship: Submission to and dependence in the Holy Sprit to bring the Father glory through Jesus! The concept of worship is usually just the time of singing before a sermon which is a form of worship, but it is also so much more then that! Worship can be anything in your life that you are bring glory to God! It was really cool to watch this new concept sink in over the week for the community. In the beginning of the week Jeremiah challenged us to think back to our first memory of worship and also where we have seen a true worshiper.  And I thought of this guy for both :)  And as we talked about wors...

GUATEMALA!!!

Our adventure started yesterday at 5:30am with the smell bacon wafting through my room because the guys had to have some before left :) We were suppose to pack at 6:00 and then leave at 6:30 but... the van didn't start...We got off on the road! and then realized we were missing a passport :) but Andrew saved us and meet us with it! We finally got to O'Hare but not before the windshield would freeze and the wiper fluid didn't work so Derek would spray it with solution at the toll booths :) O'Hare though was a breeze, thank you God! Flight to Atlanta and Guatemala were chill! On the way to Guatemala there was a family with two young kids! The little girl was getting a little anxious and I had a open seat next to me, decide I should get out of my comfort zone already and asked her to color with me! It was so rewarding:) but she spoke minimal English mainly French so I couldn't even practice my Spanish :)  Got to Guatemala and got our luggage, but Sarah's was not ...
