Week Dos

This was a transition week in to what we will be doing for the next seven weeks which was a little difficult and exhausting. But let me start off with a pretty cool story! On Sunday we went to this cemetery down the road, not the one in the city. People go there to run, or walk, its like a park for the Guatemalans. Yes it is a little weird to go and hang out when there is some services going on, but it was a beautiful place. Well some of group decide to  set up a slack line which was the start to a very interesting interaction. There was a family that was watching that had three boys and we asked if you wanted to try, but they didn't and started to walk away. We also decided to pack up, but then they came back and asked us if we wanted to play so futbol. In the cemetery? Yup, they said the knew a place we could. So we got to play with them for a while, so fun, but... then a guard came and told us that we could play where we were opps :). Then one of the kids takes out his guitar and hands it to Chris to play and they ask him to play and sing! Then we had the kid play some and the family joined in singing, so beautiful! Then one of the boys asked us if we believed in God! They were Christians too, and we then sang Open The Eyes Of My Heart Lord, because it is a universal song :). After that we got to pray for them and them for us! It was blessing to have meet this family and for our eyes to be opened. The car ride back the conversation was all about how can we do this in Grand Rapids? Is all it takes setting up a slack line in Lincoln Park with the intentions of Jesus Christ!

Monday we were up bright and early leaving the house at 6:40am because today we were going to La Limonada! And today was the first day of school so there  was a huge traffic jam! A car ride that normal takes us a half hour took us one hour and forty minutes and they same as going home! The first school we went to is call the Lime in English! It is the first school that was built in 2000. There is five classes and two sessions. Our group broke up in to threes and sat in on a class to see how classes ran and to get acquainted with the kids. By the end of the day at 4:00 our group was exhausted and had quite a bit of culture shock!

Tuesday we went to the Tangerine school where we did the same thing as the day before, but it was a more organized day because the teachers had had the students for one day already. In the afternoon between sessions we went on house visits. We went with a staff from the school and got to talk and pray with people from the slum. The staff lady that we were with was so encouraging in the way that she spoke truth about God to both of the ladies that I visited, very encourage!  The teachers were also amazing in the way that they loved their students, but also in the way that they spoke truth in to the students lives! I am excited to work with both these schools for the next couple of weeks! http://www.lemonadeinternational.org/

Wednesday we had a chill morning to recover and had some worship :) In the afternoon we went to Antigua to help paint a building that a couple is going to turn in to coffee shop! There vision is a lot like BSHOP's but just with a Guatemala mind set:)

Thursday we had prep day for teaching! We broke into to our art and music groups and came up with lesson plans for the next seven weeks.  At night we went to a college group that is from Journey Church.

Friday we went to Buena Vista Boys Soccer Academy! We did an art lesson with them! It was our first teaching time and it went pretty well! This place has a pretty cool mission for these boys to raise them up as leaders in there village. Here is the link for there website bvboys.com

Thank your prayers this week! Next week we start teaching be in prayers that those can go pretty smoothly even with the language barrier!

  1. I love that you got to play some soccer. I'm guessing that made Anna's day. ;)
